Support for Craig

Brent Hawkes, Reverend, Metropolitan Community Church of Toronto, Riverdale : “Toronto-Danforth deserves an MP who has the drive, passion and experience to do justice to Jack’s  legacy and to help us become a more just, caring and inclusive society. He will work constructively and effectively across communities and issues to benefit both the residents of Toronto-Danforth and Canadians in general.  And I am delighted that he will be an active advocate and role model for LGBT youth at a time when we can ill afford to be complacent.”

Susan Baker, Riverdale resident and Executive Director of Riverdale Share: “I would be proud to have Craig Scott as my Member of Parliament. Craig has the stature, accomplishment and history of activism we need at this crucial time for our riding.”

Paula Turtle, Canadian counsel, United Steelworkers, and East York resident: “As a labour lawyer I know that Craig Scott’s involvement in corporate accountability and social and economic rights struggles are firmly rooted in the values of social justice and equality. That’s why I wholeheartedly support him.”

Toni Schweitzer, legal aid lawyer, Leslieville resident: “I have known Craig for 20 years, and have the utmost respect for him as a lawyer, a professor and as a friend. I took out an NDP membership for the first time in my life because I believe he would do an outstanding job representing me, my family and our community in Parliament.”

Richard Elliott, lawyer and human rights activist, Danforth Greenwood area resident: "I’ve known Craig as a member of the gay community and I know that he understands the stigma and marginalization that diverse communities feel every day. It’s not good enough for politicians simply to tell young people that it will get better – especially if at the same time they vote for policies that discriminate and stigmatize. MP’s have some power and some responsibility to make it better. It will only get better when people like Craig Scott get elected to Parliament and take a stand."

Janet Mosher, Professor, Osgoode Hall Law School, Riverdale resident: "I have been a colleague of Craig for over twenty years and a resident of Riverdale for almost as long. He has provided invaluable expertise on cases relating to welfare benefits and freedom from discrimination in housing. Many social justice organizations regard Craig as an important ally bringing invaluable knowledge, analysis and endless energy to their struggles."

Gary Malkowski, former NDP Member of Provincial Parliament for York East and North America’s only former deaf parliamentarian:  "Craig is exactly the MP we need for Toronto-Danforth. He is extremely effective and passionate. He is a well-known champion for disability rights and social justice, at home and internationally."

Tasleem Riaz, NDP Riding Association executive member and community activist: "Craig has a proven track record on human rights, diversity and equity. I am confident he will bring his wisdom and compassion to the job every day, as a powerful advocate for the residents of Toronto-Danforth."

Janet Solberg, former President, Ontario NDP and former President, Toronto-Danforth NDP:  “Craig Scott is an internationally renowned lawyer and legal expert in human rights and equality law. But, just as important to me – as someone who lives in Toronto-Danforth -- Craig is engaging, personable, thoughtful and hardworking, absolutely committed to representing our riding with conviction and energy.”

Olivia Chow, MP for Trinity-Spadina:  “I am thrilled that Craig Scott is our candidate for Toronto-Danforth.  He has dedicated his career to building and defending communities. Craig has all the right stuff to carry on Jack’s work here in the riding, and in Ottawa. He has the knowledge and experience to hold Stephen Harper accountable.”

Rick Smith, environmentalist, author and Leslieville resident: “Craig was advocating for action on global warming before most of us had even heard of it. We need a strong voice like Craig’s representing us in Parliament.”

Mary Fragedakis, City Councillor for Ward 29, Toronto-Danforth: “Danforth & East York residents want an MP that rolls up their sleeves and works closely with the community. Craig Scott is the perfect person for the job.”

James Orbinski, Past President of Nobel recipient Doctors Without Borders: “I was thrilled to learn of Craig’s candidacy to national politics at this crucial time. We need people of Craig’s integrity, skill and intelligence who are driven by a sense of urgency.”

Mike Layton, City Councillor for Ward 19,"Craig has proven from his lifetime of fighting for human rights and the environment, that he is strong enough to stand up to Harper, and to accomplish what is good for Toronto-Danforth and our country."
